Russia's Supreme Court has labelled the LGBT movement an "extremist organisation" and has banned its activities across the country in a ruling on Thursday November 30.

The decision was made by judge Oleg Nefedov, who was wearing a mask under the pretext of coronavirus measures introduced in the Armed Forces.

The court's consideration of the lawsuit seeking to recognise the “International LGBT Movement” as extremist began without representatives of any defendant or interested parties.

The case was heard behind closed doors. Journalists were housed in a small press room nearby and were only informed of a short part of the judgment.

A 'love is not extremism' protest, took place on Arbat Street in Moscow.

Protester Anna Sliva held up a sign in support of LGBT rights.

Anna also added ribbons in the colours of the trans flag to the rainbow-coloured inscription on the poster, because “the word ‘love’ does not fully embrace identity,” she said.

She was not detained and passers-by treated her kindly. Even snow removal equipment drove around her without interfering with her protest.
