A 12-year-old led police on a chase around Ann Arbor, Michigan, when they got behind the wheel of a construction vehicle on November 25.

The incident began at approximately 6:45pm when officers responded to Forsythe Middle School (1564 Newport Road) after receiving a report of a juvenile attempting to steal a construction vehicle.

The situation escalated when, at 6:48pm, officers spotted the stolen vehicle, a Construction Genie GTH-636 Telehandler, being driven southbound on Brooks Street near Pearl Street without lights.

Initiating a pursuit with emergency lights and sirens, multiple officers trailed the stolen vehicle, which, during the chase, collided with approximately ten parked vehicles in the Georgetown Boulevard neighborhood.

The pursuit was eventually terminated at around 7:18pm as the vehicle crossed the M-14 bridge northbound.

Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office deputies took over, concluding the pursuit around 7:53pm near M-14 and Gotfredson.

The 12-year-old driver from Ann Arbor was apprehended and lodged at the juvenile detention center. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
