A shocking video has captured the moment a crumbling cliffside turned into a dangerous rock slide on a popular Cornwall beach.

Locals in the area were warned to “stay away” yesterday (29 November), with “much more expected to fall” over the next few hours.

Located at Whipsiderry Beach in Newquay, it began to crumble around 1.30 pm today with a man capturing the moment an entire chunk of the cliff came tumbling down.

The video, shared with Jam Press, shows small bits coming off at first but towards the end of the clip, a huge piece breaks free and smashes into the ground below.

The cliffside is said to have been left unstable following a series of similar collapses in the area, which occurred throughout the year.

A Jam Press reporter also made it to the scene where they snapped images of the Whipsiderry Cliffs.

In one image, the public can be seen lined up by the rope hoping to get a peak at the damage.

In another, coastguard crews can be talking, while one walks past to oversee the cliff.

"Major cliff fall at Whipsy happened in the last 30 minutes. The cliff is highly unstable, please stay away, much more is expected to fall,” a post read on the Save Whipsiderry Cliffs Instagram.

Fiona said: “OMG!!!! Poor Whipsi!!” [sic]

Emma added: “Holy moly!” [sic]

Pete commented: “Hell! That's massive!”

“This is really sad,” wrote Jack.

“This is genuinely heartbreaking,” added someone else.
