A man has gone viral after sharing his inventive crumpet recipes, including lasagne, sausage rolls and even a fruit compote.

Steve Devereux, from Newcastle, decided to get creative with the spongey breakfast food, turning it into delicious meals.

But his creations have left TikTok horrified, with many people calling the creations “crazy”.

Sharing the video (@foodmadesimple), he quickly amassed over 1.9m views and 105,000 likes.

“I love crumpets and I always enjoy showing the versatility of lots of different food types,” the 46-year-old technical manager told NeedToKnow.co.uk.

“My favourite recipe is the garlic crumpets.

“I get it [criticism] a lot and I usually just ignore it — I get just as much love, so that’s what keeps me going.”

In the video, Steve can be seen showing off multiple recipes, firstly a crumpet cheese toasty.

He then goes on to cover a crumpet with raisins, custard and sugar, before putting it in the oven.

He also creates his own take on McDonald’s sausage and egg McMuffin, as well as bacon-wrapped sausage rolls.

Finally, he takes four square crumpets and covers them in cheese, bolognese and béchamel sauce, turning it into a crumpet lasagne.

Quickly gaining over 1,000 comments, viewers rushed to share their thoughts.

Rosie wrote: “Crumpet lasagna should be illegal.”

Claire added: “This got crazier as it went along I don't know whether to try them or call the authorities.”

“I'm a purist, anything else is sacrilege,” said another person.

Samuel said: “God save the crumpet!”

“....mom I just witnessed a crime...,” wrote someone else. [sic]
