A woman has shared the incredible moment she found out her £5 charity shop purchase was really a £500 top, the same as one worn on the set of Forrest Gump.

Brailee Banbury found the gold, sparkly piece of clothing while walking around a Goodwill store.

The 23-year-old has an eye for vintage and often re-sells items on Depop after recognising their potential.

Sharing a video of her find on TikTok (@peachikinz), the clip gained over 4.3 million views.

“It was the first thing I noticed when I walked into the shop, it was front and centre of the store,” Brailee, from Dallas, Texas, told NeedToKnow.co.uk.

“I have a very good eye for vintage pieces and it struck my eye immediately, even from a long distance.

“After having a look, I could tell by the tag and weight of the metal that it was valuable, so that’s when I decided to google the brand.”

Upon googling the brand she discovered the Whiting and Davis brand top was worth $700 to $1,000 (£568 - £812), typically selling secondhand for around $350 to $700 (£284 - £569).

She then purchased the top for only $6 (£4.88).

Brailee added: “For now I’ve decided to keep it, maybe in the late future I’ll plan to possibly sell, or keep it as an heirloom.

“And for anyone else looking to find vintage, make sure to look down every aisle of the store, there’s usually always something hiding!

“Sometimes these situations are based on luck, so check the store periodically!”

Researching the top further, she was able to identify it as the same type of top as one worn in a famous movie.

“An interesting fact about this top is it was actually featured in the movie Forrest Gump... Jenny is actually seen wearing it,” she added.

Ranked highly as a classic film, Forrest Gump is a 1995 movie starring Tom Hanks, as the title character, and Robin Wright, as Jenny.

In one scene she can be seen wearing the expensive top while drinking and dancing.

In a video shared to TikTok, Brailee looks at the top before revealing a snap of the label.

Searching it online, she then shares a screenshot of the top being sold online for $799.99 (£650.04).

The video is captioned: “POV: You just found a shirt from the 70s that goes for $800 plus online.”

It has since gathered over 525,000 likes and 500 comments from baffles users.

Kari said: “That’s Jenny’s!”

Meghan added: “I’d be wearing that out all the time.”

Someone else wrote: “KEEP IT AND WEAR IT.”

“Looks like, or similar to, the shirt Jenny on Forrest Gump wore,” said Dixie.

“That’s amazing I want it,” Khloe commented.

“That's an iconic top, priceless,” wrote one user

“I would faint are you KIDDING,” added Chris.
