A woman has gone viral on TikTok after sharing some of the biggest mistakes she’s made as a parent.

Beth Page is a single mum to 10-month-old son Oliver, looking after her boy while studying psychology at the University of Edinburgh.

In an effort to help other young, new, and first-time mums, the 28-year-old has taken to TikTok to share her experience – including a candid confession of all the things she’s gotten wrong.

In one clip, Beth (@everythingbethhh ) shares 10 things she believes she has messed up on in the past 10 months, gathering over 607,000 views.

“Some days, having my baby is the best thing I’ve ever done,” Beth told NeedToKnow.co.uk.

“The feeling of love for your child is incredible and I was definitely always meant to be a mother.

“But there are definitely days that everything feels so overwhelming, I sometimes feel spread so thin that I don’t feel I’m doing anything right.

“I’d noticed when talking to mum friends at baby groups that nobody really talks about the mistakes they make or struggles they’d have.

“There is this need to prove you can do motherhood right nowadays, I feel.

“But when I started talking about mistakes I made I noticed other mums saying they’d done similar things, so I decided to share it to social media.

“Trying to figure out what methods and routines work best for me and Oliver the best is a hard thing to do, they don’t give you a manual on how to raise a baby and if they did it wouldn’t be relevant anyway.”

In the TikTok, Beth stitches together 10 videos of her and Oliver, while writing shows her 10 mistakes.

1. WRAPPING YOUR CHILD UP TOO MUCH

The first video is one of Oliver in a blanket, labeled: “Wrapping him up to much because I was terrified he could be too cold, he ended up sweating.”

2. REFUSING TO ACCEPT HELP

The second clip is of Beth and Oliver cuddling, with writing over the top saying: “Insisting I do everything myself, refusing help from anyone, to show everyone I can handle it.”

3. LEAVING CHILD UNATTENDED FOR A MOMENT

The third video is of Oliver on the sofa, saying: “Leaving him unattended like this because I thought he wouldn't move, he fell forward onto his face, (I was with him in seconds).”

4. WORRYING ABOUT OTHERS WATCHING YOUR CHILD

Then, a fourth clip of Beth stroking Oliver to sleep can be seen, labelled: “Believed something bad would happen to him if anyone but me looked after him.”

5. TOO MUCH PRESSURE ON FOODS

The fifth clip is of her baby eating, with writing saying: “Putting so much pressure on myself to make everything homemade when I started weening, in reality, as long as they’re fed, a pouch isn't going to kill them.”

6. TOO MUCH CASH ON BABY STUFF

The sixth video shows Oliver swinging in a baby chair, which reads: “Buying fancy swings and furniture, he didn't use it and his favourite bouncer was £15 from Amazon.”

7. NOT STANDING HER GROUND

There are then four more videos of the two together, labeled: “Not standing my ground for everything I wanted in the newborn phase, I was in survival mode.

8. THINKING I AM A BAD MOTHER

“Cut his finger when I tried to clip his nails, was terrified everyone would think I was a bad mother.

9. FEELING GUILTY FOR CONTACT NAPPING

“Feeling guilty for contact napping because I should be putting him down, else I’ll spoil him.

10. NOT GIVING MYSELF ENOUGH CREDIT

“Not giving myself credit for doing it as a single mother while studying at Uni.”

The post has over 45,600 likes, as well as hundreds of comments from fellow mothers praising Beth for her honesty.

Lauren said: “The clipping nails got me, I cried for hours after accident cutting my first babies nails.”

Ari added: “If anyone is wondering you only need to dress baby as warmly as you would yourself! If you don't need a heavy coat and hat, they don't either!”

Emma said: “Single moms are literal superheroes. I have so much respect for you.”

“All I see is a good momma,” said Ann.

“I've never related to a TikTok more oh my god, this has made me feel less alone,” added Sarah.

As a final note to fellow parents, Beth added: “Motherhood is hard enough as it is without negative comments and it’s okay to not have everything together all the time, people can be so judgemental when it comes to babies and pregnancy.

“But we’re all in the same boat and we need to support each other, it’s such an emotional and physical journey that completely changes who you are as a person so we should be supporting each other.”
