A lone surfer rides huge waves as Storm Ciarán batters Britain.

The brave man was seen in the ferocious-looking sea at 8:15 am today (2/11).

The waves hammered the empty Towan beach, in Newquay, Cornwall.

The sands and sea are usually packed full of locals and holidaymakers in the summer months.

But the man chose to take advantage of having the choppy waters to himself.

Storm Ciarán - which is set to last for THREE DAYS - has seen winds of up to 104mph hit the UK.

In Cornwall, they have hit up to 85mph.

The storm - which has also brought heavy rain - started in the early hours of this morning (2/11).

The Met Office issued an Amber Warning - an increased likelihood of impacts from severe weather.
