A blind kitten with a tiny white ‘beard’ has gone viral after getting rescued alongside his sister – with vets saying they can restore his sight.

BamBam and Pebbles were found wandering the streets of Los Angeles at just three weeks old, both severely underweight.

After a few days in a local shelter, they were taken in by cat foster mum and yoga teacher, Jamie Horgan in September this year.

Sharing their journey on Instagram (@thekittensfoster), the felines have become social media stars with over 49,300 followers.

"Bamm Bamm was born blind due to a congenital defect and an infection that almost permanently cost him his eyesight," the 40-year-old, from Los Angeles, told NeedToKnow.co.uk.

"Due to his condition and age, he and his sister were listed as 'end of day', which means the shelter will euthanize them by the end of the day unless a rescue pulls them.

"I pulled them from a local shelter.

"They were four weeks old when I got them but they were the size of two-week-old kittens."

Taking the cats to the vet, Bamm Bamm was given two types of antibiotics to clear his eyes.

She said: "After one week, it became evident that Bamm Bamm could see some movement, but his eyes had a white film over them.

"Now his eyesight is at about 75%.

"The remaining cloudiness is congenital and will not go away, but he can see very well!

"Both Bamm and Pebbles are very sweet and gentle kittens.

"They love being held and purr the moment we pick them up, they’re playful and social.

"The moment you pick them up, they melt into your arms."

Posting a clip of the kittens on Instagram, they have quickly gathered over 23,300 likes and hundreds of comments.

One person commented: "Precious babies Thank you for taking them in, giving them tons of love and care they need."

Shary added: "Ay jesu, I love you bam bam, and I hope you get well soon and if not you still will be happy and loved." [sic]

"In love!!! So purrecious! Sending them love, light and purrs!" said Ricky. [sic]

"Awwwwwwww, I want them both!!" wrote someone else. [sic]

After six weeks, Bamm Bamm's eyes have mostly cleared and he and Pebbles have since been adopted by a loving family.
