A deep sea fisherman has revealed his latest bizarre catch – a 'bejewelled' sapphire crab.

Roman Fedortsov, who works on a trawler in Murmansk, Northwest Russia, often makes headlines revealing the weird and wonderful creatures he finds in the deep.

He spends months of his life at sea, sharing snaps of frightening fish with his 642,000 followers on Instagram (@rfedortsov_official_account).

His latest catch is equally interesting – a large, sparkling blue crab that has left his followers mesmerised thanks to its “bejewelled” appearance.

He found the unidentified creature at the bottom of the Barents Sea, located off the coasts of Norway and Russia.

A video of the beast garnered 48,000 views, 3,500 likes and comments from fans.

Mickey said: “I thought someone bejewelled a crab.”

Coraline added: “What a posh fashionista.”

Katy commented: “Incredibly beautiful.”

Irina wrote: “The Sapphire Crab!!!”

“GORGEOUS,” said Rina.

“What a handsome fella!” added Musia.

It is not clear what species of crab Roman found in this catch, though its size and shape is reminiscent of the red king crab (also known as Kamchatka), which can be found in the Barents Sea and grows to a leg span of 1.8 metres.

Roman has previously made headlines for his strange catches, including a goblin shark, a rare species of deep-sea shark.

Dubbed a “living fossil”, goblins sharks are the only surviving member of the Mitsukurinidae family, a lineage of shark dating back 125 million years old.

The prehistoric beast has a characteristic long snout and sharp, fang-like teeth, which can be seen in a picture snapped by Roman.

Roman shared a picture of the rare catch with his followers, which racked up 5,000 likes and left users likening it to a creature from the Alien movie franchise.
