Sixty Newcastle football fans said they were forced to sleep on the floor in the corridor of their hotel because they couldn’t get in their rooms.

Neil Crawford made the £7,000 booking for him and the fellow Toon Army supporters for their Champions League clash in Dortmund.

But when they arrived at the £97-a-night Ibis Budget at the city’s airport they said they were not given door entry cards.

The weary group - who had made the 16-hour, 650-mile trek to the German city from the northeast - said they had nowhere else to sleep.

So they said they had to bed down in the corridors - and also on the coaches - until they could get in.

The fed-up fans were forced to use their bags as makeshift pillows.

They arrived at 10 pm on 6 November, the night before Newcastle lost 2-0 to Borussia Dortmund in their Group F match.

They eventually got in at 3:30 am but only after cops were called, they said.

Angry Neil, 44, said: “It was very distressing.

“I’m trying to get a refund.

“I’ve put in a credit card dispute, for not providing the service.”

The group - which also included two coach drivers - were forced to pay so much for the rooms due to high demand because of the football match.

But the die-hard fans decided to make the journey as it’s the club’s first qualification for the Champions League in 20 years.

Neil said he made nine calls to an emergency helpline number on their arrival and had to call cops in the end after getting no reply.

He claimed: “It could have put coach drivers at risk after a 16-hour day.

“Thank God we managed to get in at 3:30 am.

“But that was only because the police came and made some phone calls.”

Neil emailed the hotel after getting back.

It was booked through Booking.com and he said he was in regular contact with the hotel before the trip.

In the email, Neil said: “People had to sleep on the hotel corridor floors or on the coach.

“The police were eventually called by someone and came to the hotel.

“Only then after the police made some phone calls to someone did the hotel manager turn up at 3:30 am.”

He also claimed: “The staff were incredibly rude.

“The manager had the nerve to ask why people were sleeping on the floor.”

The hotel emailed him back and said they found the “arrival of the football fans” as “not really pleasant.”

They blamed changes to the massive booking in the lead up to the arrival.

A spokesperson for the hotel said: “Due to the guests informing us that they wouldn’t be able to check in until 10 pm, we made an exception and granted access enabling them to check themselves in and access their accommodation.

“Unfortunately, the party leader couldn’t locate the information sent to him, resulting in the guests being locked out of their rooms until a staff member was awoken at 2 am.”
