Japan Coast Guard's Sea Guardian conducted a crucial volcano observation mission on November 23rd, focusing on Iwo Jima. The findings revealed eruptive activity on Niijima, situated off the coast of Okinahama on the south side of Iwo Jima.

The Volcano Islands, governed by Japan and part of Micronesia, constitute a group of three islands. Positioned south of the Ogasawara Islands, they fall under the jurisdiction of the municipality of Ogasawara, Tokyo. These islands, hosting active volcanoes within a broader island arc extending to the Marianas, cover 32.55 square kilometers and sustain a population of 380.

Iwo Jima, a key island in this volcanic cluster, is located approximately 1,240 kilometers southeast of Miyazaki. The ongoing volcanic observations play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of the region amidst the dynamic geological activity.
