'No Opera on a Dead World' Extinction Rebellion disrupt opening night of NY opera

The Metropolitan Opera in New York had a performance of Wagner's Tannhauser disrupted after Extinction Rebellion activists interrupted on Friday December 1st.

The group timed their disruption during the second act at around 9:30pm, and three activists lowered banners reading ‘No Opera on a Dead Planet’ from balconies above the audience and began shouting slogans.

The curtain was dropped and security personnel removed the protesters, and the opera resumed at 9:45pm.
