In a determined effort to dismantle Hamas' underground network of tunnels, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has identified and destroyed over 800 tunnel shafts since the commencement of ground operations in the Gaza Strip. Employing various operational methods, including explosives and blocks, approximately 500 of these shafts have been successfully neutralized.

Significantly, some of these tunnels were linked to Hamas' strategic assets, emphasizing the military importance of the underground network. Extensive portions of the tunnel routes have been obliterated to impede Hamas' covert activities.

Notably, many of these tunnel shafts were strategically positioned in civilian areas, including schools, kindergartens, mosques, and playgrounds. The IDF's findings indicate a deliberate and concerning tactic by Hamas, exploiting civilian spaces to conceal its terrorist infrastructure. Large quantities of weapons were discovered within some of these shafts, reinforcing the dual threat posed to both civilians and military personnel.

Following the identification of tunnel shafts, IDF troops conduct thorough investigations to understand their characteristics before meticulously preparing for their destruction, marking a crucial phase in the ongoing operations against Hamas.
