The volcano Mount Marapi in western Indonesia erupted on Sunday afternoon (December 3rd) endangering hikers and residents from the area.

At least 20 climbers on Mount Marapi have been found dead, while three people were rescued and taken to a hospital in Padang.

Reportedly 75 climbers were at the top of Mount Marapi when it erupted on Sunday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the Head of Basarnas, Abdul Malik, said that in an update on Mount Marapi in Agam Regency and Tanah Datar Regency, the number of victims on the mountain was recorded at 75 people.

"75 Mount Marapi climbers were recorded from the post, 49 people have been evacuated safely, some have returned home and some are in two hospitals in Padang Panjang and Bukittinggi," he said.

The search for victims continued until 07:00.Wib. The joint team managed to get 3 people out alive and 11 people were declared dead, currently the joint team is still in the process of extricating them at Mount Marapi.

"The number of findings today is 14 people and the rescue team is searching for 12 people, while the victims who died are still in the process of being evacuated, because officers are having difficulty helping victims of Mount Still Erupting," he explained.
