Chinese and Thai footballers have mass brawl during cup game in China
Chinese and Thai footballers had a mass brawl during an AFC Champions League match in China.
Tempers flared when hosts Zhejiang FC beat visitors Buriram United 3-2 at the Huzhou Olympic Sports Centre in Huzhou, China, on November 29.
Spectators were heard chanting 'loser' as the players rushed at each other on the pitch. British footballer Leon James of Buriram United was then surrounded by members of the Chinese team.
It was unclear what had sparked the incident but the match was marred by many fouls and a total of seven yellow cards given to both teams.
Chinese media reported that Buriram captain Theerathon Bunmathan allegedly swore at his opponents after the game, with the brawl erupting when Zhejiang players responded to the insults.
The Asian Football Confederation said it was investigating the incident and will impose 'heavy fines' on both teams.
