A China Eastern Airlines’ flight made an emergency landing amid a violent turbulence caused by the engine malfunction.

The video was filmed on the China Eastern Airlines flight MU721 from Shanghai to Hong Kong on December 3.

The plane experienced an intense turbulence, prompting an emergency landing at Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport.

Eyewitness Yuanyuan described the harrowing experience, recounting a loud bang, severe shaking, and a smell of burning. The aircraft's broadcast indicated a malfunction, leading to the decision to divert to Xiamen City.

Yuanyuan mentioned the terrifying moments when passengers, fearing the worst, fastened their seat belts, some even contemplating writing farewell notes.

The turbulence lasted around 10 minutes, with a gradual subsiding before the successful landing. Post-landing inspection revealed significant damage and missing fan blades in the engine.

According to official records from China Eastern Airlines, the flight, operated by a 6.5-year-old Airbus A330-300, suffered an engine failure at approximately 10,400 metres altitude.

Despite the ordeal, China Eastern Airlines promptly organised passenger services and expressed sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused.

The latest update confirms that flight MU721 resumed its journey, departing from Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport at 17:29 and safely landing in Hong Kong at 18:34.

12月3日上午，从上海飞往香港的东方航空MU721航班，飞行途突然中剧烈抖动，客舱内颤抖幅度较大，最后成功备降厦门高崎机场，乘客和机组人员无大碍。
据亲历者媛媛女士介绍，当日8点半左右起飞，飞行途中，乘务员开始分发早餐，“我早餐还没吃完，就听到左侧有一声巨响，然后机身开始出现剧烈的抖动，仿佛拖拉机启动时一样，还伴有强烈的烧焦气味。我们的咖啡和茶都抖得溢出来了。”随后，机舱内有广播提示，说飞机出现故障，此后飞机再次广播，说要备降至厦门。媛媛说，当时大家都系上了安全带，感觉呼吸都停滞了，甚至还有人准备开始写遗书。剧烈的颤抖持续了大约10分钟，最终飞机成功降落在机场，“从发生故障到落地，大约持续了20分钟，后面10分钟颤抖就没那么明显了。”飞机落地后，地面工作人员发现，发动机的多个风扇叶片出现不同程度的损伤、脱落，触目惊心。
据东方航空官网显示，该航班由上海虹桥飞往中国香港。该航班计划起飞时间为12月3日8时30分，飞行记录显示，上午9点半左右，飞机发动机突发意外，当时飞行高度约10400米，随后飞机紧急下降，在9时59分备降厦门高崎机场。
资料显示，执飞本次航班的是一架空客A330-300，2017年6月交付东航，机龄仅6.5年，搭载了两台罗罗瑞达700发动机。
最新消息显示，备降厦门后，东方航空公司积极做好旅客服务保障，尽快安排旅客成行。对航班旅客造成的不便，公司深表歉意。于12月3日17:29，MU721次航班从厦门高崎机场起飞，已于18:34在香港安全降落。
