STORYLINE:

Representatives worldwide attending the 5th World Media Summit in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong Province, have praised the Chinese path to modernization.

A British scholar says that Chinese modernization has its own characteristics that are different from the Western one.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): MARTIN JACQUES, Former senior fellow at Department of Politics and Int'l Studies, Cambridge University
"I think Chinese modernization is a very important moment, actually not just for China, but for the world.
The Western argument had always been that there was only one form of modernity, and that was Western modernity. If other countries were to modernize, they would modernize in the same way as the West.
Now we have this remarkable situation where China has developed its own modernity, with its own distinguisher with lots of different characteristics which reflect both of China's political priorities but its history and its character. It will be profoundly different in lots of ways. And one of the differences is that whereas Western modernity was a block of the development of other countries, its colonists and so on, Chinese modernity is open to the world."

A communications official from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) says that through the Chinese path to modernization, he has been impressed by China's poverty alleviation achievement which not only benefits the country itself but also contributes to the development of mankind.

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): NAJUM IQBAL, Head of Communications with the Regional Delegation for East Asia of ICRC
"I think the world has a lot to learn from China that how China used its modernization to lift those hundreds of millions of people out of poverty, and how other nations, countries, developing countries can learn from China, and how China helped them actually to come out of this poverty and to fight poverty in those countries. So this is I think what I see as an important aspect of the modernization of China."

Vice minister of the Venezuelan Ministry of Communication and Information says his country is now building special economic zones.

During his visit to China in September, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro Moros traveled to Shenzhen of Guangdong, a reform pioneer where one of China's first special economic zones was established in 1980, to experience firsthand the achievements of China's reform and opening-up.

The vice minister says Venezuela could learn from China in developing special economic zones.

SOUNDBITE 3 (Spanish): JOHANNYL RODRIGUEZ RIVERO, Vice Minister, Ministry of Communication and Information of Venezuela
"This special economic zone here in China serves as an example of what can be, what can be in Venezuela to precisely have and enjoy great development of our city, of our people.
There are not a few efforts, a great development in technology, a great development in education, a great development in commercial mechanisms to be able to create trade channels to all parts of the world."
