STORYLINE:

Chairman of Sudan's Transitional Sovereign Council and General Commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, said on Sunday that any peace negotiation unable to fulfill the wishes of the Sudanese people would not be acceptable, the council said in a statement.

"We will not allow any solution to be imposed on us from abroad," Al-Burhan made the remarks when addressing a military gathering in Wad Madani, capital of the Gezira State.

"We went to the negotiations with an open heart, to reach a fair, comprehensive and lasting peace," said Al-Burhan, adding that the world should know that "the solution is at home. They must negotiate with the Sudanese people."

"Any negotiations that do not fulfill the desire of the Sudanese people will not be acceptable. Any negotiations which do not include the end of this rebellion or its complete exit from the battlefields will not be acceptable."
 
He vowed that the Sudanese army would continue the battle to defeat the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

He stressed Sudan's willingness to cooperate with the international community, and welcomed the arrival of the new UN Secretary-General's envoy to Sudan Ramtane Lamamra while warning that "we do not want an envoy who sides with a faction or a group."

"We do not refuse to work with the United Nations or cooperate with it, but we want a neutral mission which helps us restore security and stability to Sudan. Any mission or envoy who comes to Sudan and tries to side with a specific group will definitely not be accepted."
 
Since May 6, Saudi Arabia and the United States have been sponsoring talks between the Sudanese warring parties in Saudi Arabia's port city of Jeddah. Several truces have been reached since then, but both sides have accused each other of violating them.

Sudan has been witnessing deadly clashes between the SAF and the RSF in Khartoum and other areas since April 15, killing up to 9,000 people by October, forcing more than 6 million displaced within and outside Sudan and leaving 25 million in need of aid, according to the Sudan situation report on Nov. 12 by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
