This is the A591 road between Kendal and Ambleside in Cumbria U.K. During a recent State of Emergency.
The unprecedented heavy snowfall caused hundreds of motorists to either abandon their cars or be stranded overnight. The local emergency services such as Mountain Rescue and the Police were overwhelmed. The Amber weather warning came too late. Many of the stranded were families with young children and elderly people. Luckily, the local communities of Cumbria rallyed round, and driving 4x4 vehicles helped rescue many people and provided shelter, food and blankets. Places such as Churches and Community Halls were opened for overnight accomodation. In fact, a local chippy in nearby Hawkshead provided one hundred free portions of chips.
