This is the heartwarming moment two men release a baby deer that was barking like a pup in distress after getting its hind legs stuck in a metal fence when it tried to squeeze through.

One of the men filmed the rescue on a property in Jilin Province, north-eastern China on November 28.

Phone footage show the poor creature helplessly kicking in the snow in an attempt to free its hind legs. But stuck and desperate, it kept barking for help.

As a result, a man quickly came to its rescue and grabbed the roe deer by its legs and tried to gently push it out.

Although the first attempt was unsuccessful, he was seemingly determined to help the animal and this time slightly bent one of the metal poles on the fence, then pushed again.

Before long, the fawn was unstuck and ran across the snow to freedom and locals praised the two men for their kind efforts.

The roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) is a relatively small and graceful deer species found in various habitats across Europe and Asia.

Known for its reddish-brown coat, the roe deer typically exhibits a white rump patch and, in males, short antlers with three points.

They are adaptable and can thrive in diverse environments, including woodlands, grasslands, and even suburban areas.
