A local citizen captured a video showing the tactile paving peeling off like a sticker, prompting swift official clarification in central China.

Video filmed in Puyang City in Henan Province on December 3, shows two yellow tactile paths on the road tiles being easily lifted, revealing dried glue and leaving behind a sticky residue.

In response to the uproar, the Puyang Municipal Housing and Urban-Rural Development Department stepped forward with an explanation. They clarified that the tactile paths were not mere stickers as rumoured, but were made of PVC - a material known for its sensitivity to touch, corrosion resistance, and durability.

The choice of PVC was necessitated by the road's upgrade, which involved the use of granite tiles unsuitable for traditional cement tactile bricks.

The department acknowledged that some sections of the tactile path had issues like curling corners and hollow spaces. They attributed these defects to uneven application of adhesive, vehicle pressure, and the uneven surface of the granite tiles.

Acting swiftly, the Puyang Municipal Bureau of Housing and Urban-Rural Development organised overnight repairs. The fallen PVC tactile tiles were to be cleaned, reapplied and those poorly bonded were to be replaced.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
