This is the horrifying moment a patient was engulfed in flames during an alternative medicine treatment in Thailand.

The model, who was only identified by her nickname Game, went to a clinic to try out the Thai heat treatment called Phao Ya, which involved burning herbs on her tummy to help digestion.

She looked very relaxed at first, talking to the assistants and smiling as she lay in a bed with a towel and mixture of herbs on her tummy. However, when the doctor used a tea light candle lighter to ignite the mixture, flames quickly spread fire to her clothes and the plastic sheet under her.

Footage shows Game writhing and screaming in pain when she felt the fire burning on her skin. She rolled down to the floor from the bed while a frantic nurse held her hands, and another tried to put out the blaze with a blanket.

Shockingly, the doctor had backed away to safety in the corner while a colleague and the woman's boyfriend battled to extinguish the blaze.

The desk receptionist sprayed water on Game from the sink while the an assistant used pillows to smother the flames until they were able to control the fire at the clinic in Bangkok, Thailand.

In a complaint to the Thai Health Ministry on December 4, she said: ‘I suffered a lot of pain. I am afraid that it would impact my work. In another week, I need to work again, but I still have to receive treatment at the hospital.'

Game added she suffered third-degree burns, blistering most of her back and under her breasts - which she had to treat for two months as they were very painful.

Speaking anonymously through her lawyer, she said: ‘I had to be in bed for two months. I was still lucky there was no infection. We used insurance, but my hospital bills were expensive. The clinic didn't help us. Now it's affecting my work.

‘My treatment is still ongoing, and my injuries have not yet fully healed. Meanwhile, the case with them has not progressed.'

Game and her boyfriend sought the help of a Thai celebrity lawyer Guntouch Pongpaiboonwet, also known as Gun Jompalang, who joined them in filing a case against the clinic, whom they claimed refused to take responsibility for what happened.

He said: 'The clinic and doctor declined to take responsibility, shifting blame between the parties involved.

'My client has had to bear the hospital bills on their own and her wounds are not even healed. I am assisting them to ensure that those responsible pay the suitable compensation.'

Health ministry official Doctor Rungruang Kitpathi said it was the first time they received a complaint about the Thai heat treatment.

He said the ministry would investigate and is now gathering information about the doctor who performed the botched procedure.

Phao Ya is a traditional Thai healing practice that uses heat therapy and herbal remedies to address a variety of physical ailments. One of the techniques used in Phao Ya is moxibustion, which involves burning dried mugwort herb on specific acupuncture points in the tummy. it is believed to help digestion and menstrual pain.
