Motorists faced travel misery this morning (05/12/2023) after a road in Derbyshire was flooded following snowmelt and heavy rain causing nearby river to burst. Derby Road in Risley was the location where a number of drivers fell victim to the floods as they attempted to travel through a deep stretch of flooded road.

One motorist said off camera that it would now cost him £300 to have his car recovered and that he did not know if he would be covered by his insurance. He also said that he would have made it across but a van coming the opposite way created a wave which flooded his engine.

A number of cars were seen going through the water successfully but it's unknown if there cars would late show any signs of damage.

A man in waders was also seen helping member of the public on foot navigate the flooded area which had also flooded the pavement.

Police had previously closed the road but were not present this morning.
