Several motorists were stared down by a pride of lions blocking a road in South Africa's Kruger National Park.

The footage shows the lions pacing back and forth beside the road before a few begin to lie down on the tarmac, preventing motorists from passing.

The filmer told Newsflare: "Early this morning, I was on my way from Lower Sabie Rest Camp towards Skukuza Rest Camp when I found this lion pride, blocking the road.

"It's a great way to start the day.

"Initially, I was the only vehicle for about half an hour, but soon other vehicles showed up.

"After already spending an hour with them, I had to pass and give others a chance to get a great sighting.

"It was at this moment when something drew their attention and they got restless.

"Suddenly I was surrounded by lions as there were some on my left-hand side as well.

"Some of the lions gave me the 'stare' - but they were all calm.

"After curiously inspecting my vehicle, they moved off and quickly disappeared into the bushes."
