STORYLINE:

A former UN environment chief hails China's green development, saying it reflects the country's effort to build a Beautiful China.

Former UN under-secretary-general and former executive director of the UN Environment Programme Erik Solheim says the initiative of building a Beautiful China is "so positive" and "inspires people."

"There is an enormous positive change in China, and it's a wonderful transformation. At the center of this has been also the idea of creating a Beautiful China.
It's simply wonderful. So creating this Beautiful China has been a main driver, also (for) fighting pollution and climate change. It's about creating a positive vision for the land."

Solheim praises China's commitments and actions in addressing climate change and believes that many places in China are carrying out eco-friendly practices.

The former UN official says many developing countries that are most affected by climate change are making a lot of practical efforts, calling developed countries to shoulder their due responsibilities.
