This is the moment a monitor lizard skittered into a woman's garage in Thailand.

The reptile had crossed the road and entered Thanatchaporn Kaewsuriya's home as she was working in Chonburi province on November 30.

CCTV footage shows Thanatchaporn trying to fend off the creature with a plastic chair as her frenzied pet dogs chased after it. The lizard ran into the equipment storage area and hid under the shelves, prompting the homeowner to call animal handlers.

The team managed to capture the lizard, which weighed 15 kilos and measured 182 centimetres long.

Relieved Thanatchaporn said: 'I had just finished making merit and was bookkeeping in front of the garage when the monitor lizard appeared. I consider it a sign of good fortune.'

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
