In a heartwarming saga over the last three days, a runaway kangaroo has bounced its way into the affections of Durham residents, all fervently wishing for her safe return. Due to heightened public interest, Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) released body-worn camera footage, capturing the kangaroo's spirited encounter with officers.

Despite the incident not being fully recorded, the officers displayed exceptional dedication in securing the kangaroo, demonstrating a commitment that went beyond the usual "roo-tine" duty. The kangaroo, affectionately named Police Service 'Roo' Emy May, was successfully returned to the zoo on December 4th and is expected to make a full recovery.

After three days of pursuit, DRPS officers expertly secured the kangaroo, employing a crash course in kangaroo behavior. Grabbing her tail proved to be the safest and most effective method. Alongside this heartwarming tale, residents learned interesting facts about kangaroos, emphasizing their unique characteristics and behaviors.

DRPS has welcomed their honorary K9 Unit member, hoping 'Roo' Emy May continues to hop her way into the hearts of the community.
