On December 5, 2023, the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Waesche (WMSL-751) conducted a successful counternarcotics patrol. In November 2023, the Waesche law enforcement boarding team intercepted a self-propelled semi-submersible (SPSS) in international waters of the Eastern Pacific Ocean, resulting in the seizure of over 5,500 pounds of cocaine.

The Waesche crew continued their relentless efforts, culminating in the confiscation of approximately 18,219 pounds of cocaine in November 2023. This impressive achievement, valued at over $239 million, was the outcome of four separate suspected drug smuggling vessel interdictions or events off the coasts of Mexico and Central and South America. The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Waesche remains committed to combating drug trafficking and ensuring the safety of international waters.
