Highway blanketed in snow around Mount Rose, Nevada
Footage shows the impact of strong winds and heavy snow that resulted in a whiteout on the Mount Rose Highway in Nevada on December 6.
The video captures a flurry of snow battering the region and blanketing the road in piles of ice.
The Mount Rose summit on SR 431 was reported to have experienced an accumulation of approximately four to six inches of snow.
Drivers wereadvised to anticipate snow-covered roads extending from Douglas Fir Drive in Reno to Incline Village, according to the Washoe County Sheriff's Office.
The Nevada Department of Transportation has mandated the use of chains or snow tires for vehicles traveling on the Mount Rose Highway. The combination of heavy snow and winds may lead to whiteout conditions, it said.
Washoe County Sheriff's Deputies were collaborating with the Nevada State Police and NDOT snow plows to ensure the safety of individuals on the road.
Motorists planning to traverse the pass in the evening were urged to exercise caution and drive with care in response to the adverse weather conditions.
