Local man evacuated the survivor of the Mount Marapi eruption while the mountain was still erupting

Two local Indonesian teenagers take turns carrying a survivor as they evacuate her from the eruption of Mount Marapi in West Sumatra, Indonesia.

The footage, filmed at the top of Mount Marapi in Agam on 4 December 2023, shows Tomi and Andika taking turns to carry a female hiker from the top of Marapi to the base of the rock.

In the video, Andika is heard saying that they found the victim again on the top.

"Found another one at the top. Female, no identity found. Still trying to bring her down. Please help," Andika's voice in the footage.

Mount Marapi erupted at 14:54 on 3 December 2023. The two local youths at the foot of Mount Marapi said they knew that many hikers were still near the crater at the top when the mountain huge erupted that day.

They saw the direction of the wind and decided to climb at night to help the victims at the top of Mount Marapi, which continued to erupt, spewing thick black clouds and ash.

The next morning they found more than a dozen victims, marked the position and told the Joint SAR Team to evacuate.

The eruption of Mount Marapi on Sunday afternoon killed 23 hikers.
