Climate activists gathered along Muizenberg beach in Cape Town as part of a Nationwide protest in line with COP28 day of Action.

Civil Society and Community organisations called for an end to fossil fuel projects and against Seismic blasting which will commence on the coast in 2024. The exploration and blasting will be done by a vessel called the Searcher was authorised by South Africa's forestry and fisheries minister Barbera Creecy despite an appeal by environmentalists.

Activists and environmentalist are concerned by the lack of public participation and more importantly the impact it will have on marine life ranging from whales to plankton.

Protesters held posters calling out Total energies and the South African government and expressed their concerns from a stage close to the waters edge.

One protester was arrested by the South African Police after he fired a flare claiming that the flare is the earth calling for help.
