This shocking footage shows the devastating aftermath of a 27-vehicle collision that killed two people and left at least four seriously injured.

The massive pile-up happened on the Quannan Expressway near the city of Liuzhou in the Guangxi region of southern China at around 8:30am on December 7.

Aerial footage shows numerous heavy-duty lorries looking utterly destroyed after they rear-ended one another.

Police officers worked to redirect traffic into the single empty lane while firefighters struggled to free the six victims who had gotten trapped in the wreck.

The accident had caused a major traffic jam and required an extensive clear-up operation. Another clip shows rescuers carefully carrying out injured victims on stretchers.

One man, who was pulled out from the cabin of a red lorry, had notably deep cuts and wounds on his arms and had blood on his chest.

Two people were killed in the accident, local media reported.

At least four others were injured. It is currently unclear what caused the fatal crash.

Some eyewitnesses claimed there had been heavy fog on the road during the morning, which had decreased the visibility to only six feet.

Police are currently investigating.
