This is the moment police help a devastated family transport the coffin of a relative who was killed in a bus crash in Honduras that left at least 12 dead and 23 injured.

The fatal incident reportedly occurred on a highway, east of the Honduran capital Tegucigalpa, on Tuesday, December 5.

According to eyewitnesses, the bus was forced off the road and into a river when a lorry invaded the bus lane and collided with it. Many passengers were killed at the stop, including a one-year-old child who died in his mother's arms.

The lorry driver was arrested three hours later.

Police officers from UMEP-02 (Unified Metropolitan Special Police Unit) helped transport the coffin of one of the victims to Dulce Nombre de Culmin via the Honduran Air Force helicopter.

Officials said they are continuing to provide support to all the families who were affected by the accident.
