Shoe repairman praised for saving unconscious driver's life
A humble shoe repairman has been hailed a hero after he pulled an unconscious driver from his locked car and performed CPR, saving his life.
Craftsman Jiang Xiangsheng was working as usual at his shoe repair stall in Nanning, in the Guangxi region of southern China, when a car suddenly stopped in the middle of the road in front of his workshop, on November 27.
Curious passersby immediately gathered around the vehicle, and Jiang rushed forward to see what had happened. As he walked up to the car, Jiang found the driver had fainted in the driver's seat.
Seeing this, he shouted: 'Not good, he might be having a heart attack.'
Jiang and several other men who witnessed the sight then quickly decided they should get the driver out as soon as possible. But since the car doors had been locked, they decided to break the window and open the door from the inside.
In order not to harm the driver, they chose to break the front passenger window.
Phone footage shows one younger man attempting to smash the window with a hammer. But the glass was so sturdy that it barely cracked.
hankfully, Jiang was equipped with sharp-edged shoe-repairing tools. After striking the glass several times, he managed to break it and opened the door. Sparing no time, he pulled the unconscious driver out in the street and performed CPR until paramedics arrived.
The man was later taken to hospital and is said to be in stable condition.
