Rescue Mission to Recover Lifeless Body of Mountaineer in Sierra Nevada, Spain

A 52-year-old mountaineer from Malaga lost his life in a tragic accident on Sunday, the 10th of December, when he fell down an icy slope near Tajos de la Virgen in the Sierra Nevada, Granada. The incident, reported at 5:15 p.m. to Emergencies 112 Andalucia, occurred at an altitude of 3,000 meters in a challenging-to-access area.
The Civil Guard, informed by Room 112, promptly initiated a rescue operation deploying the Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group (GREIM) and the Health Emergency Center (CES) 061. Eight mountain specialists from GREIM Granada were involved in the evacuation. Due to the location's difficulty, the collaboration of snow grooming machinery from the Sierra Nevada ski resort was essential for the body's evacuation.
Despite the immediate response, the mountaineer could not be revived, highlighting the inherent risks of high-altitude activities. The tragic incident serves as a somber reminder of the unpredictable challenges that adventurers can face in mountainous terrain.
