Malta on Wednesday marked the 49th anniversary as a Republic in Valletta, the capital of Malta.
Among the Republic Day celebrations, a ceremonial parade was held by the Armed Forces of Malta at St George's Square.
Maltese President George Vella inspected the Armed Forces of Malta during the parade.
Maltese Prime Minister Robert Abela and other distinguished guests also attended the celebrations.
The celebrations drew a large and enthusiastic crowd.
