The 2023 China (Hainan) International Coconut Industry Forum concluded in the city of Wenchang, south China's island province of Hainan, on Thursday, with a focus on the sustainable and healthy development of the global coconut industry.

The three-day forum, themed "Igniting science and technology collaborative innovation in the global coconut industry to boost its global value chain," had drawn the participation of more than 230 representatives from over 20 countries.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): MRIDULA KOTTEKATE, Assistant director of the International Coconut Community (ICC)
"The technical discussion will definitely help to craft the recommendations for improving the global value chain. I know the coconut industry forum of China aims to discuss the current global coconut industry policies, trade, technology, and value chains with the invited countries and seeks to promote the formation of a global alliance and collaboration within the coconut industry."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): DAVID PRAK, Secretary of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Cambodia
"As many Cambodian agricultural products have exported to China including rice, mango, banana, longan, pepper, cassava and cashew nuts, I firmly believe that Cambodian coconuts will be popular among Chinese consumers."

SOUNDBITE 3 (Chinese): SUI PENGFEI, Director general of int'l cooperation department of China's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs
"In recent years, the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has attached great importance to the cooperation with countries in the world's hot zones on coconut and other tropical crops, paying attention to close personnel exchanges, strengthening scientific and technological exchanges, and carrying out experiments and demonstrations, with positive results achieved in all aspects. We will focus more on economic and trade cooperation in the coconut industry, bolster production capacity through investment and increase trade for industry growth and value-chain enhancement."
