A family in Punjab's Patiala narrowly escaped tragedy when a pressure cooker exploded inside their kitchen on Tuesday (13th December) . The violent explosion was captured on CCTV, which showed five family members, including a child, in the kitchen at the time of the incident. However, no one sustained any injuries.

video captured on an inside security camera shows the kitchen of the two-story building. It was lunchtime, and the family was said to be waiting for the vegetables to be cooked in the pressure cooker. Two women are seen working in the kitchen while a child throws a ball around. A man sits at the dinner table a few feet away. However, the seemingly calm scene quickly changes.

Seconds later, the cooker's lid explodes, crashing into the roof and bringing down parts of the kitchen's ceiling and furniture. As the family tries to take cover, the entire room gets engulfed in thick smoke. As the two women cover their ears and flee, a part of the kitchen chimney lands between them. Following the explosion, more people are seen running down the stairs.

While the cause of the explosion is unknown, the family was unharmed. Pressure cookers usually explode when the whistle is blocked by food and steam cannot escape the utensil as it overheats.
