MPs Emily Thornberry, Jeremy Corbyn, faith leaders and council representatives, joined by members of the public, stood in solidarity with the Jewish community during the relighting of the Islington Green menorah after it was vandalised earlier today (December 14).

The menorah in Islington, and another in West Hampstead, were thought to have been deliberately targeted and are being investigated by the Metropolitan Police as potential 'hate crimes'.

Islington Green's Hanukkah menorah lighting event is the second largest in the UK, and the act of vandalism took place just days after hundreds gathered in celebration.

Cases of antisemitic incidents have skyrocketed after the Hamas attacks in Israel on October 7th and war was declared.
