Indonesia volcano erupted: Traveler filming the moment the deadly Mount Marapi erupts from a plane
A traveler filmed the massive eruption of Mount Marapi in West Sumatra as he flew over it in a plane.
"Mount Marapi erupted today (12/5), there was a flight from Padang to Kuala Lumpur. Hopefully Marapi will recover quickly,” Latifah Octa, the filmer said.
The Marapi Volcano Observatory in Bukittinggi reported an eruption an hour earlier, but the height of the ash column could not be monitored due to fog. After the eruption, there were continuous gusts of wind that caused ash rain in the area around Marapi.
On 5 December, Mount Marapi had six eruptions and 110 gusts.
Meanwhile, since the big eruption on 3 December until 15 December, Marapi has erupted 91 times and experienced 446 gusts.
The Marapi eruption on December 3 resulted in the deaths of 23 hikers.
