Refugees living in tent camps in Rafah, southern Gaza have been facing additional challenges as recent poor weather has flooded shelters and created freezing conditions.

Filmed in a tent camp in Rafah on December 13th, the settlement is built on sandy ground strewn with garbage, with citizens were trying to recover after a terrible night, carrying buckets of sand to cover puddles inside or just outside their tents, and hanging up wet clothes.

Some families have suitable tents, but others are content with tarpaulins or thin, transparent plastic made to protect goods and not provide shelter for people. Many of the tents did not have mats or anything to lay on the ground, so people spent the night huddled on the wet sand.

Rafah has been bombed by Israeli airplanes on December 14th, reportedly killing 26 people.

The strong winds and heavy rains in Gaza, the night before last, exacerbated the suffering of displaced families, as they tore down fragile tents, flooded them with water, soaked clothes and blankets, and left everyone cold.
