This is the dramatic moment guests fled in panic when a fire broke out at a wedding reception in Thailand.

Family and friends were celebrating the union of the couple Phueng and Was when the decorations caught fire at the reception venue in Bangkok on December 10.

Footage shows flames eating at the decor near a mezzanine as staff brought a stepladder and scrambled to put out the growing blaze with extinguishers.

The rest of the event was cancelled as the visitors were asked to leave for safety. There were no casualties reported.

The groom Phueng said the incident occurred during photoshoots after the wedding. He said there were intermittent power outages shortly before the smell of smoke permeated the dining hall, sparking panic.

The disgruntled newlywed claimed: 'There were no security officials at the event, no fire escape signs, and no fire alarms. The entire venue also had many flammable decorations.

'After the fire was extinguished and our guests had left, the organizers hurriedly redecorated the venue to prepare for the evening events. They did not even show any regret or take responsibility for what happened.'

The organizers told the couple via messaging app LINE that the cause of the fire was a short circuit. They also offered a hotel stay at the beachside town of Hua Hin as compensation, but bizarrely threatened legal action if the couple continued to air their grievances.

A staff member was quoted as saying: 'This is how we take responsibility. This was an accident that no one intended. But if the bride and groom think it's still unfair, please follow the suggestions.

'Do not criticize online. Let's go talk to a government office. Otherwise, legal action will be taken against the bride and groom.'

The newlyweds were then blocked from contacting them further on LINE.

An angry Phueng said: 'We understand that this matter was an accident. But I can't accept that they don't show any responsibility. What we demand from the organizers is a sincere apology, because we had been preparing for the wedding for a long time. We experienced a trauma that cannot be quantified.'

In northern Iraq, at least 107 people were killed when a devastating blaze caused by fireworks ripped through a wedding hall in October. The bride and groom survived with minor burns, but had lost dozens of close friends and relatives in the tragedy.
