The Bargersville Police Department is commending Officers Cody St. John and Joshua Wheat for their swift actions in rescuing a woman trapped inside a burning car near Interstate 69 in Greenwood. The incident unfolded when the driver, veering off an access road, crashed into a fence in an area described as a "severe curve section of roadway that isn't properly marked."

Body camera footage captured the urgency of the situation as Officers St. John and Wheat arrived at the scene, where the car had traveled about a hundred feet off the roadway. The impact left the driver unable to escape due to a fence on her driver's side door. Witnesses estimated the speed at 80 miles per hour.

Undeterred, the officers worked together to guide the injured driver out of the vehicle. Despite challenges, Officer St. John's encouragement and Officer Wheat's quick response with a fire extinguisher ensured her safe evacuation.

Officer Wheat noted the driver's gratitude, emphasizing her happiness at walking away from the harrowing ordeal. The Bargersville Police Department lauds the heroic efforts of its officers in preserving life during this critical incident.
