STORYLINE:
A strong cold front originating in Siberia, Russia, has been sweeping large parts of Mongolia, causing temperature drops and bringing strong winds and blizzards in recent days, Mongolia's National Agency for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring (NEMHEM) said Friday.

Overnight temperatures dropped to minus 46.2 degrees Celsius in Tes soum, an administrative subdivision of the western Mongolian province of Zavkhan, from Thursday to Friday, marking the coldest temperature in Mongolia this winter, NEMHEM said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the overnight temperature was colder than minus 21 degrees Celsius in the rest of the country on Thursday night, it said.

In addition, the cold wave is expected to continue across the country in the coming few days, the agency said, urging the public, especially nomadic herders and drivers, to take extra precautions against possible disasters.

Mongolia's climate is strongly continental, with frigid weather.
