At a press conference on Friday, China's National Health Commission introduced the progress made in exploring and advancing the development of a healthy countryside, and stressed the role of this initiative for the all-around rural revitalization.

"On the one hand, consolidating and expanding the achievements made in providing healthcare support to the previously impoverished is the foundation for the revitalization of rural areas. We should continue to improve the monitoring mechanism for preventing a relapse to poverty due to illness, improve the assistance mechanism for such cases, carry out regular examinations, and monitor the implementation of relevant measures, so as to prevent large-scale recurrence of poverty resulting from illnesses. Meanwhile, we will further improve the grassroots healthcare service system, reinforce the mechanisms of regular medical rounds conducted by health workers, and their deployment. Our aim is to ensure universal coverage of rural medical and health services, guaranteeing the presence of doctors in rural areas and facilitating timely access to medical treatment for rural residents. On the other hand, we will keep exploring and advancing the building of a healthy countryside."
