A kind-hearted owner poured several hundred pounds into treating her ailing tortoise in northern China.

The video was filmed in the city of Shijiazhuang in Hebei Province on December 11.

The tortoise, purchased for a mere 5 yuan (£0.56) by an avid animal lover, fell seriously ill. Concerned for its health, the owner rushed the ailing reptile to a local pet hospital for an unprecedented medical intervention – a CT scan.

According to Ms Zhang, a friend well-versed in the situation, this seemingly budget-friendly tortoise was diagnosed with a surprising ailment – white-eye pneumonia. Undeterred by the modest initial cost of the pet, the owner was undeniably attached, considering the tortoise as an integral member of the household.

With the diagnostic CT scan and subsequent hospitalization, the owner incurred a substantial bill, amounting to more than 4,000 yuan (£450).

The tortoise has successfully recuperated and has been discharged from the hospital.
