Milford and Derby police have released disturbing footage from recent street takeovers in southern Connecticut, where law enforcement faced unruly crowds engaging in dangerous behavior. On December 9, 2023, Milford police responded to a takeover at the Stop and Shop parking lot on Bridgeport Ave. at 2 a.m.

The situation escalated with fireworks and M80s causing a small fire, hitting an officer's parked cruiser. The officer was assaulted, treated for minor injuries, and is recovering.

Derby experienced a similar incident, with a group moving from Milford to Pershing Dr., throwing fireworks at officers and civilians. Derby Police, collaborating with state and federal partners, thwarted takeovers planned in Shelton, Trumbull, and Orange.

Despite efforts, a massive group of 1,500 decorated vehicles caused chaos in North Haven later that night. Authorities express frustration with the recurring incidents and emphasize collaboration to combat the issue.
