Driver averts accident as giant mattress falls off lorry and lands on road
A driver narrowly avoided a car accident when he drove over a giant mattress that flew out the open back of a small lorry and landed in the middle of the highway.
Dramatic dash-cam footage shows the motorist travelling along the highway near Qingyuan, in Guangdong Province, southern China on a sunny afternoon on December 12.
In the clip, a lorry loaded with mattresses in the open trailer is seen driving along the middle lane.
Suddenly, one giant, white mattress that sat at the top of the stack suddenly flew off and landed directly on the busy road.
It slammed directly in the path of the driver in the car following behind, and he could not avoid it. As there were vehicles travelling in both the left and right lane, the driver had no choice but to slow down and drive straight over it.
After managing to pass over the mattress safely, the driver then pulled up in the emergency lane and stopped to check for damages.
A quick inspection revealed that parts of the car's chassis were damaged. Thankfully, the vehicle's condition was good enough to drive.
The driver said he then reported the incident to highway patrol so they could clear the obstacle from the road and drove away.
He reminded other drivers to always be extra cautious on the road. Because the damages to his car were minor, he said he has no plans to claim compensation.
He said: 'I hope that traffic police will be able to locate and penalise the lorry driver as it will make for a safer and more stable driving environment for others who frequently use highways.'
