A creepy sea creature baffled fishermen when they caught it in their net in Thailand.

Footage shows the spider-like animal with dozens of tentacles that twitched as it sat on the men's boat in Satun province on December 19.

Fisherman Chanathat Kongyossapat said: ‘I thought it was only a seaweed, but then it moved. I was frightened by it for a moment.'

The animal was actually a feather star. According to Phuket Aquarium, the feather star is classified among echinoderms and starfish and is typically found inhabiting coral reefs or rocks.

The feather star possesses numerous arms that resemble feathers, which it uses to capture food flowing with the water current into its central mouth.

Feather stars can be found in both the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.

However, those in the Gulf of Thailand are typically black in colour, while those in the Andaman Sea tend to exhibit a more colourful appearance.
