STORYLINE:

The annual Central Economic Work Conference held earlier this month noted that China's economy has achieved a recovery and made solid progress in high-quality development in 2023.

Consumption has become an increasingly important engine of China's economy, which contributed 83.2 percent to the GDP growth in the first three quarters of the year, compared with 77.2 percent in the first half of the year.

Encouraging growth in the over two-week-long "Double 11" shopping extravaganza has testified the robust recovery of China's domestic consumer market.

A total of 7.51 billion packages were sent during the period, representing a 30.9-percent growth compared with the same period in 2022.

Robust consumption has also been reflected in other sectors. According to China Association of Performing Arts, there were 342,400 commercial performances in the first three quarters of this year, generating over 31.54 billion yuan (about 4.41 billion U.S. dollars) in box office gains.

For tourism, statistics from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism showed that the Chinese people made 274 million domestic trips during the May Day holiday and 826 million during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday.
